Exodus 37:6-9 And he made THE MERCY SEAT of pure gold:
two cubits and a half was the length thereof, and one cubit and a half the breadth thereof.
And he made two cherubims of gold, beaten out of one piece made he them, on the two ends of THE MERCY SEAT;
One cherub on the end on this side, and another cherub on the other end on that side:
out of THE MERCY SEAT made he the cherubims on the two ends thereof.
And the cherubims spread out their wings on high, and covered with their wings over THE MERCY SEAT, with their faces one to another;
even to THE MERCY SEATWARD were the faces of the cherubims.
Leviticus 16:1-2 And the LORD spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the LORD, and died; And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother,
that he come not at all times into the HOLY PLACE within the vail before THE MERCY SEAT,
which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I WILL APPEAR IN THE CLOUD upon THE MERCY SEAT.
Leviticus 23:26-32 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Also on the tenth day of this seventh month
there shall be A DAY OF ATONEMENT:
it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD. And ye shall do no work in that same day:
for it is A DAY OF ATONEMENT,
to make AN ATONEMENT for you before the LORD your God.
For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.
And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people. Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.
QUESTION: On the final DAY OF ATONEMENT, when the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies; what did He place on the Mercy Seat?
Hebrews 8:1-6 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum:
We have such an high priest,
who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
A minister of the sanctuary,
and of the true tabernacle,
which the Lord pitched, and not man.
For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry,
by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her,
TOUCH ME NOT; for I am not yet ascended to my Father:
but go to my brethern, and say unto them,
I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood:
and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls:
for IT IS THE BLOOD THAT MAKETH AN ATONEMENT FOR THE SOUL.
Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
I Peter 1:18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Hebrews 9:1-16 Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.
And after the second veil,
the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;
Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
But into the second went the HIGH PRIEST alone once every year,
NOT WITHOUT BLOOD, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
The Holy Ghost this signifying,
that way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest,
while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
But Christ being come an HIGH PRIEST of good things to come,
by a GREATER AND MORE PERFECT TABERNACLE, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
Neither by the blood of goats and calves,
but by HIS OWN BLOOD he ENTERED IN ONCE into the HOLY PLACE,
having OBTAINED ETERNAL REDEMPTION for us.
For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
How much more shall THE BLOOD OF CHRIST, who through the eternal Spirit OFFERED HIMSELF WITHOUT SPOT to God,
purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
Acts 20:27-28 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers,
to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased WITH HIS OWN BLOOD.
Hebrews 9:22-26 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands,
which are the figures of the true;
but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world:
but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to PUT AWAY SIN by THE SACRIFICE OF HIMSELF.
ANSWER: Jesus Christ «The High Priest» placed HIS OWN BLOOD on the Mercyseat to obtain eternal redemption for us.
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith,
Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Romans 3:24-26 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith IN HIS BLOOD,
to declare HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS
for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Hebrews 10:5-14 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offerings thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God, Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ
ONCE FOR ALL.
And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices,
WHICH CAN NEVER TAKE AWAY SINS:
But this man, (Jesus Christ)
after he had offered ONE SACRIFICE FOR SINS FOR EVER,
sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
FOR BY ONE OFFERING
he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow.
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
There is a fountain filled with blood
Drawn from ImmanuelÂ’s veins;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood,
Lose all their guilty stains.
I heard an old, old story,
How a Saviour came from Glory;
How He gave His life on Calvary
To save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning,
Of His precious bloodÂ’s atoning.
Then I repented of my sins
And won the victory.
«Nothing, either great or small; Nothing, sinner, no;
Jesus did it, did it all, Long, long ago!
When He, from His lofty throne, Stooped to do and die,
Everything was fully done; Hearken to His cry –
‘It is finished!’ Yes indeed, Finished every jot.
Sinner, this is all you need. Tell me, Is it not?
Weary, working, plodding one, Why toil you so?
Cease your doing. All was done, Long, long ago!
Till to Jesus’ work you cling By a simple faith,
Doing is a deadly thing. Doing ends in death!
Cast your deadly ‘doing’ down, Down at Jesus’ feet.
Stand in Him, in Him alone, Gloriously complete!»
