The order of the Jesuits, also called the Society of Jesus, was founded by Ignatius Loyola in 1534 and was recognized and empowered by Pope Paul III in 1540.
Loyola had been a soldier in Spain’s war against the Moslems during the days of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. He was wounded in 1521 and turned his attention to spiritual things. He formed the Jesuit order along military lines. The pope was his commander and Mary was his queen.
The members took a vow of complete submission to the pope and to the superiors of their order. «Â…let every one persuade himself that he who lives under obedience should be moved and directed, under Divine Providence, by his superior, just as if he were a corpse, which allows itself to be moved and led in any direction.»
Consider the oath of the Jesuit order as it appears in the Congressional Records, 62nd Congress 3rd session, vol. 49, part 4, page 3216, Feb. 15, 1913:
«Now in the presence of Almighty God, the blessed Mary, the blessed St. John the Baptist, the holy apostles, St. Peter and St. Paul, and all the saints sacred holy of heaven, and to you my Ghostly Father, the superior general of the society of Jesus, founded by St. Ignatius, in the pontification of Paul the III, and continued to the present, do by the womb of the Virgin the matrix of God, and the rod of Jesus Christ, declare and swear that his Holiness, the Pope as Christ’s vice-general and is the true and only head of the Catholic or universal church throughout the earth, and that by virtue of the keys of binding and loosing given His Holiness by my Saviour, Jesus Christ, he hath power to depose heretical kings, princes, states, commonwealths and governments that they may be safely destroyed. Therefore, to the utmost of my power I will defend the doctrine and his Holiness’ right and custom against all usurpers of the heretical or Protestant authority whatever, especially the Lutheran church of Germany, Holland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden and the new pretended authority and Churches of England and Scotland, and the branches of some now established in Ireland, and on the continent of America and elsewhere and all adherents in regard that they may be usurper and heretical, opposing the sacred mother church of Rome.
“I now denounce and disown any allegiance as due to any heretical king, prince or state, named Protestant or liberals, or obedience to any of their laws, magistrates or officials.
“I do further declare that I will help, assist, and advise all or any of his holiness’ agents in any place where I should be, in Switzerland, Germany, Holland, or America, or in any other territory I shall come to, and do my utmost to extirpate the heretical Protestant or Masonic doctrines, and destroy all their pretended powers, legal or otherwise.
“I do further promise and declare that, notwithstanding I am dispensed with to assume any religion heretical for the propagation of the mother church’s interest, to keep secret and private all her agents’ counsels from time to time as they entrust me, and not divulge, directly or indirectly, by word, writing or circumstances whatever, but to execute all that should be proposed given in charge, or discovered unto me, but by my Ghostly Father, of any of his sacred order.
“I do further promise and declare that I will have no opinion or will of my own or any mental reservation whatsoever, unhesitatingly obey each and every command that I may receive from my superiors in the militia of the
Pope and Jesus Christ.
“That I will go to any part of the world whithersoever I may be sent to the frozen regions of the north or the burning sands of the desert of Africa, of the jungles of India, to the center of civilization of Europe or to themwild haunts of the barbarous savages of America without murmuring or repining and will be submissive in all things whatsoever is communicated to me.
“I do further promise and declare that I will, when opportunity presents, make and wage relentless war, secretly and openly, against all heretics, Protestants and Masons, as I am directed to do, to extirpate them from the face of the whole earth, and that I will spare neither age, sex, or condition and that I will burn, hang, waste, boil, flay, strangle, and bury alive these infamous heretics; rip up the stomachs and wombs of the women, and crush their infants’ heads against the walls, in order to annihilate their execrable race. That when the same cannot be done openly, I will secretly use the poisonous cup, the strangulation cord, the steel for the poniard, or the leaden bullet, regardless of the honor, rank, dignity or authority of the persons whatever be their condition in life, either public or private, as I at any time may be directed to so do, by any agent of the Pope, or superior of the brotherhood of the holy Father or the society of Jesus.
“In confirmation of which I hereby dedicate my life, soul and all corporal powers, and with the dagger which I now receive, I will subscribe my name, written in my blood in testimony thereof; and should I prove false or shaken in my determination, may my brethren and fellow soldiers of the militia of the Pope cut off my head and my feet and my throat from ear to ear, my belly opened and sulphur burned therein with all the punishment that can be inflicted upon me by demons in eternal hell forever.
“That I will in voting always vote for a K. of C. in preference to a Protestant, especially a Mason, and that I will lead my party would to do, that if Catholics are of the ticket I will satisfy myself which is the better supporter of the mother Church and vote accordingly.
“That I will not deal with or employ a Protestant if in my power to deal with or employ a Catholic. That I will place Catholic girls in Protestant families of heretics.
“That I will provide myself with arms and ammunition that I may be in readiness when the word is passed or I am commanded to defend the church either as an individual or with the militia of the Pope.
“All of which I …………, do swear by the blood of the trinity and the blessed sacrament which I am now to receive, to perform and on my part to keep this my oath.
“In testimony thereof, I take the most holy and blessed sacrament of the Eucharist and witness the same further with my name written with the point of this dagger, dipped in my blood, and seal, in the face of this holy sacrament. signed……………”
The society grew quickly, and by the time Loyola died in 1556, there were 1,500 members.
The society’s two main goals were to expand Rome’s influence among the pagans and to fight against heresy, meaning Protestantism, Anabaptism, and any other doctrine contrary to Rome. It accomplished this through assisting the Inquisition, infiltrating and influencing governments, sending out missionaries, and setting up schools.
Jesuit missionaries carried Rome’s false sacramental gospel to many parts of the world, including America, Canada, South America, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the Philippines, Japan, and China. In many of these places, Rome continues to have a dominant influence even to this day.
They are credited with winning Poland back to the Roman Catholic Church from the Protestants.
Jesuit teachers educated millions of young people and thus spread Rome’s influence dramatically by influencing the elite of society in many lands. They especially sought to teach the children of the ruling and wealthy classes, «aiming in all schools to gain absolute mastery over the pupil.»
The Jesuits plotted, and often succeeded in, the violent overthrow of governments. They were behind several unsuccessful attempts to assassinate Queen Elizabeth I in England and the successful assassination of King Henry III of France. They planned the Spanish Armada, whereby Spain attempted to conquer Protestant England with an invasion of ships. They invented the «Gunpowder Plot,» whereby Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the British parliament in 1606 during the reign of King James I.
There is nothing the Jesuits will not do. In fact, they had a stated principle that evil is permissible if it furthers the will of the Pope.
«So atrocious, extensive, and continual were their crimes, that they were expelled, either partially or generally, from all the different countries of Europe, at various intervals THIRTY-NINE TIMES, a fact unparalleled in the history of any other body of men ever known in the world. This is the seal of reprobation stamped upon Jesuitism» (J.P. Callender, Illustrations of Popery, 1838, p. 346).
Except for England and Russia, the countries that expelled the Jesuits were Roman Catholic! These include France (1594 and again in 1606 and yet again in 1762), Portugal (1598 and again in 1759), Spain, Genoa, Venice, and Sicily in 1767, Naples, Malta, and Parma in 1768.
The cry against the Jesuits became so loud by the nations, that they were suppressed by Pope Clement XIV in July 1773. That pope died only a few months later, allegedly by poisoning! Even after being banned, the Jesuits continued to operate under different names, such as “Brothers of the Faith.” The order of the Jesuits was openly re-established by Pope Pius VII in 1814.
President Abraham Lincoln issued this warning: “If the Protestants of the North and the South could learn what the priests, nuns, and monks, who daily land on our shores, under the pretext of preaching their religion, were doing in our schools and hospitals, as emissaries of the Pope and the other despots of Europe, to undermine our institutions and alienate the hearts of our people from our Constitution and our laws, and prepare a reign of anarchy here, as they have done in Ireland, Mexico, Spain, and wherever there are people that wish to be free, they would unite in taking power out of their hands” (Chalres Chiniquy, Fifty Years in the Church of Rome; Justin D. Fulton, Washington in the Lap of Rome).
The Jesuits continue to be an important arm of papal power today.
